James Ijames’ Pulitzer Prize-winning reinvention of Hamlet brings Shakespeare’s classic into the modern South with humor, heart, and barbecue. Juicy, a young Black man, grapples with his father’s ghost, family expectations, and the cycle of violence that haunts them all. Will he seek revenge or carve out a new path? West End United Methodist Church's 4th Story Theater
Trapped in the shadows of Elsinore, the women of Hamlet - Ophelia, Queen Gertrude, and Ophelia’s handmaid Anna - grapple with love, duty, and survival in a world ruled by men and madness. A Room in the Castle is a bold, haunting reimagining that gives voice to those too often silenced. Fierce, lyrical, and intimate, this companion piece to Shakespeare’s tragedy offers a fresh and deeply human perspective on power, autonomy, and the cost of being heard.
